Holy Tuesday, Batman

So yeah, there was an earthquake in D.C. today. It’s quite strange to see an entire city of workers standing on the street.

As I sat at my desk when the 9th floor started shaking, here’s what I thought:

Was that a plane? Oh, no, crap that’s an earthquake. WHAT? Shit, what do you do during an earthquake? THINK. Find a doorway, stand in a doorway. There are no doorways! What do I do?

Fortunately, a co-worker then went running and yelling “Get out, get out, get out!”

The Husband’s take: First, someone is doing loud work outside. Second, no, must be a large person walking by. Third, Oh, that was a bomb down the street.

Yep. That’s D.C.

What a day. Bright side: there’s a hurricane coming this weekend. Now those I can handle. (ahem, West Coast.)

After waiting for an hour for some kind of news (there were some great Tweets but unfortunately I forgot to save them. I was kind of distracted, you know.), we finally got to go up over 9 flights of stairs to get our stuff. Then I waited as I watched bus after bus pass by, waited again for another bus and finally made it home. Whew. What a strange day.

In other news: I joined a gym!

My goal for now (as in hopefully I will be able to do more when I’m in better shape) will be 3 to 4 times a week, doing strength and cardio. I’m mostly excited about some group yoga and zumba classes.

OK, so I haven’t done a zumba class before and the few times I’ve tried to do a dance workout via video, I alarmingly realized I have no rhythm. None at all. Do you think I’ll embarrass myself at zumba? Are there like secrets to being not so terrible at it?

I also bought myself a little treat.

Moroccan Oil! I’ve been wanting to try this stuff for so long and I finally found a salon close by that sells it. I’m excited to see what it can do. If you don’t know what it is, well, it’s been featured in almost every major beauty magazine for a couple years now.

I’m a sucker for marketing. But I’ll be sure to pass along whether I actually recommend the stuff or if it’s just more pretty boxes.

And now, I’m going to sleep. My brain can’t process anything else.

  1. I love zumba, and i have no rhythm either. Honestly the classes move so quickly you kindof don’t have time to stress out at first about whether or not you’re doing it exactly right. but don’t let that scare you!

the first five minutes feel awkward and embarrassing, and then it just becomes really fun! In my class there are new people every week, so theres pretty much always someone worse than me- that helps too 🙂

Have to agree with Whitney. I recenlty started going to a gym that offers zumba classes 3 days a week. I usually go to one or two, depending on my energy level. It’s a phenomenal cario and core workout. I know I look like an absolute idiot doing it, but the consolation is so does everyone else. I’m convinced there’s no way to do zumba gracefully! lol.
